HP TUNERS – PRACTICE FLASHING YOUR STOCK FILE
HP TUNERS – PRACTICE FLASHING YOUR STOCK FILE
FIRST TIME USING HP TUNERS? PLEASE COMPLETE THIS STEP BEFORE FLASHING ANY MODIFIED TUNE FILES.
If this is your first time using HP Tuners, we strongly recommend practicing the flashing process using your original stock calibration before attempting to flash any modified files we send you.
STEP 1 — READ & SAVE YOUR STOCK FILE
Using the appropriate version of HP Tuners VCM Editor for your vehicle, perform a complete read of the module(s) being tuned.
If your order includes both the ECM and TCM, read and save them separately when applicable.
DO NOT LOSE OR DELETE YOUR ORIGINAL STOCK READ.
Save a backup copy somewhere safe.
STEP 2 — SEND US YOUR STOCK READ
Email us your original stock read file(s).
Please include:
-
Order number
-
Year
-
Make
-
Model
-
Engine
-
Transmission, if applicable
-
Clearly identify the ECM and TCM files when sending multiple files
We will use these stock read files to build the modified calibration for your vehicle.
STEP 3 — PURCHASE HP TUNERS CREDITS
Before flashing, you will need to purchase the appropriate number of HP Tuners credits required to license your vehicle/module(s).
Credits are purchased directly through HP Tuners.
Make sure you have enough credits for every module being tuned, including the ECM and/or TCM when applicable.
After purchasing your credits, make sure they are properly synced to your HP Tuners interface before continuing.
STEP 4 — PRACTICE FLASH YOUR STOCK FILE
DO THIS BEFORE FLASHING THE MODIFIED FILE WE SEND YOU.
Take the original stock calibration you just read from your vehicle and flash that stock file back into the same module it was read from.
The purpose of this step is to familiarize yourself with:
-
Licensing the vehicle/module
-
Selecting the correct module
-
Selecting the correct file
-
Following the HP Tuners flash prompts
-
Proper ignition/key cycles
-
Understanding the flashing process from start to finish
-
Clearing DTCs after a successful flash
You are practicing with the vehicle's original factory calibration instead of learning the flashing process for the first time while installing a modified calibration.
WHY WE REQUIRE / RECOMMEND THIS
We have had customers attempt to flash their modified tune as their very first HP Tuners flash without fully understanding the process.
Selecting the wrong module, interrupting the flash, performing an incorrect key cycle, disconnecting equipment, or otherwise not following the flashing procedure can potentially cause an ECM or TCM programming failure.
Your modified tune file should NOT be your practice run.
Practicing by writing your original stock calibration back to the vehicle allows you to become comfortable with HP Tuners and verify that you can successfully complete the flashing procedure before moving forward.
BEFORE FLASHING YOUR MODIFIED FILE
Do not proceed until you have successfully:
READ STOCK FILE → SAVED STOCK FILE → SENT STOCK FILE TO JAT → PURCHASED/SYNCED CREDITS → FLASHED STOCK FILE BACK → VERIFIED SUCCESSFUL FLASH
Once you have successfully completed the stock practice flash and verified the vehicle starts, communicates, and operates normally, you are ready to move forward with the modified file provided by JAT Supply Co.
IMPORTANT: Maintain proper battery voltage during all programming. Never unplug your HP Tuners interface, disconnect the battery, shut down the computer, or otherwise interrupt an active flash. Always follow the flashing instructions and prompts provided by HP Tuners/VCM Editor.
